Family About to Disown Me

well i finally got the guts to tell my mother that i had enlisted in the army.

she didn't say a whole lot to me, but she did tell my sister she was calling the elders and that when i was df'd she would have nothing to do with me.

i can't say that it suprises me too much, but i was hoping for more of an adult reaction.

I'm sure this situation has been difficult for you. I wish you the best, and I salute you for your service to our country. Now it is time for you to look ahead to new experiences, new friends and a whole new world (a real one, not a Watchtower illustration).

Where will you stay until January? Are you already living on your own?

i predicted with astonishing and god-like accuracy:.

i can understand how as former thralls we would have some morbid curiousity about what the fds/gb has planned.. i predict that whatever the specific content might be, it will be a baloney banquet no different from any of the other special events and special revelations hosted previously.. let's just be patient and trust in jehovah's organization to provide us all with a good laugh in the days following.. .

First Reaction To My UN letters

my husband called his cousin this morning and the first thing the cousin said to my husband was something like, are you aware that your wife sent us some information that was very disturbing to us?.

my husband let him know that he did not know i was sending out those letters but he had since done research on the info and found that i was correct.. the cousin asked my husband if he was aware that i could be in trouble for a letter like that.

my husband informed him again that i was telling the truth and he had called the un himself to verify.. the cousin said he would call the society to see if this is true but.

What would it take?

in view of the jw reactions on items such as the ngo thing, harbouring child molesters, it made me wonder about what it would take for the average jw to really grasp that the gb, the org and lots of its doctrine is not what it claims to be.. personally i've experienced that after a longwinded argument with an elder about the validity of the 1914 doctrine, he eventually agreed that it wasn't as solid as he thought and that it could be incorrect.

did he see the light (or its absence)?

interestingly enough, he immediately added that even if all this were true/untrue, it would not invalidate his loyalty to the org & gb.

I'll never have an opportunity to ask this, but I wonder what he would say if you asked him what it would take for him to realize the Borg didn't deserve his "loyalty"? Ritual Cannibalism? Human sacrifice?

By the way, nice handle, and congrats on one of the creepiest icons I've seen to date.

Does anyone know about....

okay, i've seen lots of posts with references to this subject, but does anyone know of the percentage of child molsetations, or incest that occurs as an average in the dub org??.

i'm trying to get a handle as to how big of a problem?or how common a problem, this is for the children who have been raised in this enviroment.. anyone who can help me to understand - thanks in advance!!.

It is not uncommon when the subject of child molestation is discussed with a Dub that they will offer a comment to the effect that "these things happen in other religions too, you know."

Since they are unwilling to see themselves as "separate from the world" in regard to deviant behavior, it is probably safe to assume that the rate of child molestation inside the WTS is about the same as it is outside the WTS.

There certainly is NO reason toe expect the percentage of child molestations or incest to be lower than in the general population, given the WTS' willingness to protect offenders.

If, on the other hand, you were to ask a Dub about how many Dubs were smokers, you would get a firm assertion to the effect that "Witnesses of Jehovah do NOT smoke", and it is likely that the percentage of smokers in the WTS is much less than in the general population.
